Hawaiian Packing List for Aussies

We asked Aussie’s Guide to Hawaii Facebook Group for their packing tips, and this is what they said…

Clothes and Accessories :one_piece_swimsuit:

  • Sarong
  • Shorts
  • 3/4 pants
  • T-shirts
  • Swimmers/Togs
  • A light jacket for cooler nights
  • Beach dresses
  • Comfy pair of shoes
  • Reef shoes
  • Clothes that you’d wear all the time
  • Less clothes, more money
  • Don’t need dressy clothes, everyone is casual

Tech Gear :camera:

  • US converter
  • AUS powerboard and 1 x US adapter (this way you won’t need several US adapters)
  • Phone Charger
  • GoPro

Personal Care/Medicine :soap:

  • Panadol
  • Body wash
  • Travel size toiletries
  • Mini toothbrush
  • Bee repellent
  • Toilet spray/deodoriser or matches (for multiple people sharing one toilet)
  • Reef safe sunscreen (available @ ABC or Walmart stores)
  • Lactease tablets (take them before latte etc)
  • No large bottles of bathroom products

Food Items :fried_egg:

  • Le snacks
  • Tim Tams
  • Weetbix
  • Cadbury chocolate
  • Vegemite/Aussie peanut butter/Marmite
  • Tea (also find it at Kai Coffee “Boston Tea,” Moana “Lubicia,” and ABC stores have Lipton)
  • Coffee satchels
  • A litre of long-life milk (available @ Walmart)
  • Jar of coffee or mini plunger
  • Boxes of toffeemacs
  • Bread
  • Protein/shaker for breakfast

Hotel Essentials :hotel:

  • Kettle (also can purchase one in Waikiki, called a “water boiler”)
  • Small toaster (available Target @ Ala Moana or Walmart)
  • Laundry capsules/washing power
  • Bottle opener (in checked luggage, not carry-on)
  • Plastic coated wire hangers (wash clothes and hang on the balcony)
  • Don’t pack towels, hotels have them
  • Quick dry towels from Kathmandu (great to roll wet clothes in before hanging to dry)
  • Small fold up hanging clothesline
  • Plastic cutlery for room meals
  • Paper plates & bowls (Cheaper to buy from Australia, Good for eating breakfast & takeaway in the room)
  • Hook on scales to weigh your bags (check eBay/Amazon)
  • Lightweight umbrella stroller. Good when kids can’t walk anymore & go on strike
  • Soft dog bed for small kids sleeping on the plane, not joking
  • Glen 20
  • Pegs - great for pegging undies to your lanai chair so they don’t blow away
  • Toilet paper if you have sensitive skin
  • Soft Esky bag
  • Vacuum seal bags for clothes and housekeeping can vacuum the air out

Misc/Tips :shopping:

  • TIP - Pack clothes for each person in each suitcase, in case one gets lost
  • TIP - Hawaii has gone “bagless,” so bring 1 or 2 foldable bags that fit into your handbags.
    (Also available in Hawaii prints at Safeway & ABC stores in Hawaii)
  • TIP - Just in case your luggage is lost put in your Carryon a change of clothes.
    Someone recommended 5 tees, 5 undies, 3 shorts, swimmers, a book, iPad, thongs (called slippers in Hawaii) & sneakers.
  • Snorkel gear
  • Large size zip-lock bags for shoes
  • Travel Pillow
  • Inflatable beach lounger
  • and the kitchen sink!
